Chair of Matthew’s Friends Medical Board.
With the publication of the Study we conducted at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, there is now Class 1 medical evidence demonstrating the efficacy of the ketogenic diet in the treatment of childhood epilepsy. Although this has led to wider acceptance that it should be available to patients, gaining resources for this treatment is the ongoing battle.
Since I took on the role as Chair of the Medical Board back in 2004, it has been amazing to watch just how much progress Matthew’s Friends has made and the huge impact they have made in the world of the Ketogenic Diet. They continue to strive to provide the best support and information for not only patients and their families but also professionals by working alongside them and with the facilitation of training and meetings, reducing some of the anxiety that was once associated with the diet.
In 2010 they brought the Global Symposium on ‘Dietary Treatments for Epilepsy and Other Neurological Disorders’ to Edinburgh, Scotland and they have now opened The Matthew’s Friends Clinics, providing Dietary Treatments to all who may need them as well as facilitating and carrying on their support of clinical research of this speciality. I am delighted to be working with them.
