Dr. Elizabeth Neal RD Matthew’s Friends Research Dietitian

I am a research dietitian with a special interest in the ketogenic diet. I graduated from Surrey University in 1988, with a BSc honours degree in Nutrition, this was followed by a number of years working as a dietitian, specialising in paediatrics.
I then went on to study for a Masters degree in Public Health Nutrition at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Since 2001, I have worked in London as a ketogenic diet research dietitian at the Institute of Child Health and Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Trust. I have been very involved with the recently published randomised, controlled trial on the ketogenic diet, and have completed my PhD on the subject.
I have known Emma Williams since I first saw Matthew in 2002 to start the diet, as part of our trial, and have been a member of the charity’s medical board since the outset. I am delighted to now take on the part-time post of research dietitian for Matthews Friends, and hope that I can help develop the professional support side of the work. The vision is for the charity to become a place that supports not only parents, but also the professionals who are working with the diet, by providing education and training, a telephone and email helpline, and updates on the latest scientific information.
This is an exciting time to be working with the ketogenic diet, and I hope that together we can help increase its availability for the many children who need it.
I can be contacted via the Charity Helpline or e-mail me at medicalboard@matthewsfriends.org marking your e-mail for my attention.
